Music@Noon – Matthew Smith, cello and Peipei Song, piano
Wednesday, Mar 11, 2020, 12:00pm
Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland
This highly lauded duo are regular guest artists at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China as well as enjoying U.S. performing and teaching careers. Matthew is a member of Palaver Strings, the much-loved Maine-based chamber orchestra committed to enriching lives by sharing music with diverse audiences. In addition to being a lecturer at NCPA, Peipei is an active collaborative pianist in the Boston area working for the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. This program is anchored by Rachmaninov’s Cello Sonata in G Minor, a work that explores the two instruments’ capacity for expressive tenderness and is filled with the character typical of Russia’s Romantic era.
Presented in partnership with the Farnsworth Art Museum, our lunchtime concerts offer a midday break in the relaxed atmosphere of the Farnsworth’s library in downtown Rockland. This hour-long performance includes freshly-prepared soup provided by Atlantic Baking Co. plus free admission to the museum following the performance.
