An eclectic program that gives audience members a chance to get closer to these noteworthy musicians, and experience some fascinating wind repertoire. At the core of the program is Britten’s Six Metamorphoses after Ovid, a piece of program music for solo oboe describing characters from Roman mythology, each with a narration. The piece is performed by the masterful James Austin Smith, extensively praised for his "virtuosic," "dazzling" and "brilliant" performances (The New York Times).
