The Summer Concert Series is the cornerstone of Bay Chamber’s 60 year history of presenting chamber music in Rockport. Artists from all over the world return each summer to perform in our two local venues, the beloved Rockport Opera House and Union Hall, offering intimate concerts in informal settings.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the following presentations will replace our original Summer Concert Series programming.
Each Thursday (9th July to 13th August) at 7:30PM we’ll present online mini-concerts streamed on our YouTube Channel. We have a treasured archive of recorded Bay Chamber performances, spanning decades of concerts and featuring so many astonishing artists and ensembles, from Andrew Wolf and the Vermeer Quartet performing in the 1970’s right up to Orion Weiss, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Geoff Nuttall and the Maxwell String Quartet performing last year. This is a wonderful opportunity to share a curated sample of these superb recordings by streaming a cherished masterwork each Thursday evening. The music will be accompanied by images from Bay Chamber and Rockport’s archives and the work of some of Maine’s most innovative painters and photographers. These are rare and beautiful recordings and we are so excited to share these transcendent performances with you in an entirely new way.
Jupiter Quartet ‘Live’
On Thursday 6th August, our Masterworks series will feature the electrifying Jupiter Quartet performing a concert streamed live. They will play the World Premiere of a piece commissioned by Bay Chamber Concerts to mark our 60th Anniversary. To Unpathed Waters, Undreamed Shores by Michi Wiancko delights in the beauty and vitality of the natural world and explores ideas of regeneration, resilience, and hope. The quartet will also play Beethoven’s monumental String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132.
We hope you’ll join us for this historic and innovative alternative program.
