Reading Music Workshop

MaryAnneIn an effort to expand its education programming in preparation for the opening of its Community Music School, Bay Chamber Concerts is offering the “Reading Music Workshop,” taught by composer Mary Anne Driscoll.  The workshop will be held over  two evenings, April 28 and 29, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Union Hall in Rockport.

The course is designed for music students of all ages and abilities interested in learning how to read music and furthermore how music manuscript translates into a sound performance.  Many listeners and musicians sing or play by-ear yet are less familiar with reading musical notation.   This workshop will provide a basis for developing the ability to read music with ease.

The workshop begins with a glimpse into music history and an introduction to music theory.  Through listening and writing exercises, attendees will acquire experience and skills that develop or improve their ability to read music.   Previous knowledge or familiarity with voice or a musical instrument is not required.

Instructor Mary Anne Driscoll, composer, improviser and performer is passionate about teaching music fundamentals to people of all ages and backgrounds.  Since the early 1970s, her performance, recording and teaching in San Francisco, New York, Maine, Europe and Japan has centered on music as a vehicle for discovery and communication.

The $75 Workshop fee includes all materials.  This class will be limited to 15 students.
