A "long-admired figure on the New York scene" (New Yorker), cellist Michael Nicolas enjoys a diverse career as chamber musician, soloist, recording artist, and improvisor. He is the cellist of the ground-breaking Brooklyn Rider, and the acclaimed International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), and has worked with countless composers from around the world, premiering and recording dozens of new works. Conrad Tao has appeared worldwide as a pianist and composer, and has been dubbed a musician of "probing intellect and open-hearted vision" (The New York Times).
Their Screen Door program celebrates CARTER’s 1948 cello sonata with its metric modulation, complex relationships of tempo, and the assignment of distinct character to each instrument, as well as offering an opportunity to hear the music of AMY WILLIAMS and a performance of one of BEETHOVEN’s much loved cello sonatas.
